Yummus (Garlic Hummus)

What holiday spread would be complete without some hummus? As a good source of protein and low in fat, hummus is the perfect dip to include. Even those who are weary of the chickpea concoction usually find themselves wanting more. Here’s a very basic hummus recipe that I use.

  • 1 15 ounce (or bigger) can chickpeas, drained but save the chickpea water!
  • 1/4 cup chickpea water from can
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons tahini (or peanut butter, surprisingly!)
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dill
  1. In a blender or food processor, combine chickpeas, chickpea water, olive oil, lemon juice, and tahini. Blend until smooth, no lumps. If needed, add more chickpea water, lemon juice, or olive oil. The hummus should be tangy but spicy from the tahini.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Add more to taste. Blend.
  3. Serve with pita, chips, veggies or put it on a sandwich.
